Inaccessible communication on social media has negative impacts for both users and the organisations who are trying to communicate with them. Users with diverse identities feel ignored, excluded and otherised when confronted with content online that does not consider or recognise their identity and experience. On the other hand, organisations who are not employing adequate cultural communication protocols are not able to reach these diverse audiences.

'include.' is a centralised platform that can be used by organisations and individuals who are producing digital content. Our team has developed a comprehensive set of cultural protocols to support you in creating content that is accessible to a diverse range of audiences. We have created protocols and principles for communicating with First Nations peoples, people of colour, LGBTQI+ communities and people experiencing disability. We have also developed a content evaluator that you can use to assess how well your content is communicating to a diverse range of audiences. You can use our evaluate quiz to assess image, text, audio and video.

Our initiative engages closely with the design justice principles explored this semester. Our solution promotes inclusive design practices and culture, and provides a comprehensive resource to aid organisations and individuals seeking to connect with marginalised communities but don't know how. We have investigated the needs, obstacles and experiences of marginalised users to inform our solution, and have elevated discussions of race and gender in technology throughout our work.
